PHP for Windows

PHP is a common general-purpose open-source programming language designed specifically for Web development and its code can be embedded directly into HTML.

It has a large set of built-in tools for:

• automatic extraction of POST and GET parameters and web server environment variables into predefined arrays;
• interoperability with many different database management systems (MySQL, SQLite, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, ODBC, mSQL, IBM DB2, Cloudscape and Apache Derby, Lotus Notes, DBM, Firebird, etc.);
• automated sending HTTP headers;
• handling HTTP authorization;
• handling cookies and sessions;
• operating with local and remote files and sockets;
• processing files uploaded to the server;
• working with XForms, etc.

Main areas of use:

• Creating scripts to run on the server side.
• Creating scripts for command line execution.
• Creating windowed applications that run on the client side.

PHP is available for most operating systems, including Linux, many Unix variants (such as HP-UX, Solaris and OpenBSD), Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, RISC OS, and many others. PHP also includes support for most modern web servers such as Apache, IIS and many others.
