WinDirStat is a program for viewing statistics on disk space usage and cleaning it. It functions in all current versions of Microsoft Windows.
The first time you run the application, it reads the entire directory tree on existing disks and then provides statistics in three views:
- Directory List, which has a similar look to the Windows Explorer view, but is sorted by directory/file size
- Directory Map, which displays the complete contents of the directory tree in a graphical form
- An extension list, which serves as a legend and shows a stylistic summary of file types
- On the tree map, each file is represented as a colored rectangle, the area of which is proportional to the file size. The rectangles are arranged in such a way that the directories again form rectangles containing all their files and subdirectories. The color of the rectangle indicates the type of file, as shown in the list of extensions.
Among other things, the program supports selectively clearing disk space and performing many different actions on files or folders.
