DNS Benchmark for Windows

DNS Benchmark - the program performs a detailed analysis and comparison of the performance and reliability of any set of up to 200 DNS name servers (sometimes also called resolvers) at a time. When the benchmark runs in its default configuration, it identifies all the DNS name servers currently in use on the user's system and adds them to its built-in list of publicly available "alternate" name servers. Each DNS name server in the benchmark list is carefully "characterized" to determine its suitability - for use as a DNS resolver.

When the benchmark runs, the performance and apparent reliability of the DNS name servers currently in use by the system as well as all of the operational name servers on the benchmark's built-in list of alternate name servers are compared against each other.

The results are continuously displayed and updated as the benchmark runs, with a histogram and table chart dynamically sorted and scaled to show the cached, non-cached, and "dotcom" DNS lookup performance of each name server. These values are determined by thoroughly querying each name server for the IP addresses of the 50 most popular domain names on the Internet as well as non-existing domains.

The results are heuristically and statistically analyzed after the query is completed. Based on these results, users can change the order in which they use their system's own resolvers or, if alternative public name servers offer better performance or capabilities than those currently in use, switch to one or more alternative name servers.
