CPU Unpark is a small utility that allows you to monitor a built-in Windows OS service that manages the use of the CPU chip. One of the many services that the Windows OS is constantly balancing in the background is the activation and deactivation of processing threads within the CPU.
This is most noticeable in laptops, where the OS strives to constantly conserve as much power as possible, often sacrificing performance to do so. From time to time, the OS may disable certain threads and thus save energy, to reduce the heat dissipation of the chip, or for any other reason. However, some users want to have access to all the processing power of their PC and therefore want to take control of the CPU core's parking. With the Unpark CPU app, PC users can unpack some or all of the CPU cores on their PC with a few simple clicks.
Unpark CPU application is distributed in a small ZIP archive containing just one exe file. This application is completely portable and can be easily carried and used directly from a USB drive.
Despite the fact that the main purpose of the application is to switch a few commands in the protected areas of the Windows OS that are responsible for maintaining communication with the CPU, this application manages to offer a few additional features. For starters, a small visualization window is present that displays the number of CPU cores detected, the number of cores parked, and a visual graph of the current CPU utilization. Below that are drop-down menus for currently active power plans (System Power Plan and System Power State), an easy-to-use core parking index slider, and a handy "Unpark All" button at the very bottom. Users who just want to quickly unlock all cores can click this button (or select the desired core parking index level) and click Apply.
If all CPU cores are unlocked, they will be used much more frequently and intensively, which can lead to increased performance (e.g. in games or video processing). However, users should be aware that the forced unlocking procedure directly affects the power consumption and heat dissipation of your processor. This is especially important for laptop users who can drain their battery very quickly.
